When we walked into the room and saw the funeral blanket for the first time we didn’t know what to say. We touched the blanket and then my wife wrapped it around herself and said her mother is still with her. We keep the tribute blanket on the couch in the living room, it is so large, it is like Peg is still with us. It helps our children. It is like their grandmother is still here to comfort them. It take the sting out of the loss. It helps both me and my wife cope with our loss and we are undone by the generosity of our funeral director. When I asked him what we paid for the blanket he said it was a gift. When I told my wife she responded that you could not put a price on the blanket because it is priceless. She would not part with it for the world. It helps the whole family. Thank you and my brother and sister in laws each have purchased a blanket. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
I was first introduced to the glorious Tribute Tapestry by Mr. J.C. Battle of JC Battle and Sons Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio in November 2009. I had shared my discontent about how my Mother’s funeral preparation had been handled and after hearing the great things their funeral home did to provide grieving families with a memorable funeral experience; I stopped in to see one of the tapestries while there on a business trip.
It brought tears to my eyes, and, I asked if I could have 2 made from a picture of my Mom and I. I kept one for myself and presented the other to m Dad for Christmas. It was so elegantly done, clear and a beautiful way to see my Mom every day in a way most cannot. My Dad treasured it and had it prominently displayed on his couch in the living room.
I loved the tapestry of my Mom and I so much that I asked Mr. Battle if they could work their magic again with a picture of my Mom, Mother-in-Law, and I so I could give one to my Mother-in-Law for Christmas…The caption we used was perfect…Better Days. She loved it and I have subsequently replaced the one of my Mom and I with the one of the three of us during better days.
Shortly after receiving the “Better Days” tapestry I got hit with the horrible news that my Dad had passed away. I was a total wreck but Mr. Battle asked me to e-mail a few pictures and he expertly weaved it into the perfect picture of my beloved Dad…in fact, we used tapestry picture as the Home going Program cover. It was PERFECT!!!! Even with the impending holidays and short notice, my Dad’s tapestry was at his service on time and was the star attraction because it captured my Dad- with a smile and good will.
I have my Dad’s tapestry displayed on my living room couch so I can see him every day and my Mom’s Better Days on the other couch. These tapestries are part of my daily remembrances of the two greatest parents that ever lived.
I strongly encourage families to invest in family heirlooms like these beautiful memorial tapestries…even before your loved ones take their eternal rest.
Respectfully submitted.
